Extremely positive and essential book

As someone who is rather new to Louise Hay's work, I am really impressed with this little book. It contains 365 powerful affirmations that anyone can easily adapt into their life. It is also extremely colorful, and pleasant to look at.

I am finding that affirmations help me to realize my full potential and also brighten my day. When I find myself slipping into self-defeating, negative self-talk, I am able to flip to a page in this book and use the affirmation to help snap myself out of it. I even carry the book around with me at times, and keep it in the car.

Highly recommended along with 'You Can Heal Your Life.'

The author has rightly relied on the exceptional study of Lev Vygotsky with regard to the compatibility of the basic assumptions of both books. The sphere of the ontological is spacious, if not infinite, but the author has caught with her research 'network' its most important aspects, actually those which are essential for Shakespeare's play. Thanks to such procedure, the author has managed, in her own, authentic way, to highlight the multi-layered structure of Shakespeare's play." Mirko Zurovac, Professor of aesthetics and ontology: "The basic hypothesis from which the author has started, is that the tragedy of 'Hamlet', in its essence and foremost, is a metaphysical tragedy and that metaphysical discourse, not philological, is suitable for the analysis of ontological aspects in that play. Moreover, the author has added at the end seven of her poems that are imbued with metaphysical inspiration, which in a direct poetic way, point to a metaphysical passion with which the author has written this very important and very interesting book".

About the Author
Raymond J. Bishop, S.J. (January 15, 1906 February 1978) was a Roman Catholic priest. One of the several priests involved in the case of exorcizing a boy in St. Louis, Missouri, who was said to be possessed after using a Ouija board. The case inspired author William Peter Blatty to write a novel about exorcism, titled The Exorcist and then a movie based on a diary of these events. In 1949, Father Bishop assembled these accounts in form of a diary from 14 priests that were eye witnesses to the exorcism which is presented here in this book. This book is for research and teachings on the subject of possession. This diary is unedited and reveals the facts of the actual case. Christopher Saint Booth is a an author, producer and director of films and documentaries for Syfy, Chiller, NBC Universal, Redbox, Spooked TV Productions, At&t, Vimeo, Apple iTunes, Netflix, Roku and more worldwide. He also is the CEO of Spooked Television. Films include Dead Still (Syfy), Death Tunnel (Sony Pictures), The Possessed, Spooked, Children Of The Grave (Syfy Channel/NBC Universal), The Exorcist File-Haunted Boy (Redbox), Children Of The Grave 2, Soul Catcher and DarkPlace. About the Author

Doris Pilkington’s traditional name is Nugi Garimara. She was born in 1937 on Balfour Downs Station in the homeland of her Mardu ancestors. As a toddler she was removed by authorities from her home at the station and committed to Moore River Native Settlement, from which she escaped. She is the author of Home to Mother and Under the Wintamarra Tree.

The longest walk

It's an insult to Doris Pilkington and to the children's endeavour alike to race through this book. Still, circumstances dictated [the film was waiting] and the deed was done. Which merely led to a re-read. This real-life story of three young girls escaping from the looming slavery of a Christian mission to return home is another entry on the balance sheet of imperialism. With immense forces arrayed against them, the three evaded all pursuit, even expert Aborigine trackers, to cross half a continent to rejoin their families. The distance covered was likely the longest walk in Australian history.
The roots of this story lie in the opening chapters which recount the actions of European visitors and settlers against the indigenous Australian population. Women were raped, murdered or abandoned. Men were killed, imprisoned, led into slavery as they watched their traditional lands overrun by cattle, sheep or grain. The ease with which firearms overcame spears added to the European's attitude of "superiority". By the time of Molly Craig's capture, killing had been mostly abandoned in favour of "assimilation" - a mild word for indentured servitude. Molly, recognised the fallacy of being forced into an unwanted life. She took steps to avoid this fate - many steps, as it turned out. Enough to hide from pursuers, do some elusive backtracking and arrive at home. At least 1800 km of mostly barefoot walking.
There were adventures enough along the way, and some ironies. Although alerted to their escape, the wives of white selectors fed, clothed and sheltered them briefly. Then dobbed them in to the police after the trio had again gone bush. The girls lived on donated food, captured rabbits, birds' eggs or whatever else the bush provided. Each contributed as best they could. It was enough. Seven weeks after their escape, two of the three were reunited with family. Yet, nine years later, Molly Craig, this time carrying her infant daughter, had to repeat her incredible performance.
To those complaining the book is too brief, one can only ask: "What would you add?". This is an Aborigine tale told in an Aborigine manner. It doesn't examine the lives and motivations of such people as A. O. Neville or Const. Rigg. It doesn't delve into the psychological foundations of Molly or Gracie or even Mrs Flanagan. The book presents the tale as it occurred without ostentation or enhancement. There are numerous works on the conquest of Australia and its "White Only" policy and its implications. This story, stark and simple, stands on its own merits. Don't read it too quickly. There is too much to learn. [stephen a. haines - Ottawa, Canada]

If you are interested in what happens to native or aboriginal peoples when whites try to incorporate them into a white culturally based society, READ THIS BOOK! The book is 10x better than the movie...full of real details. Even though this story was told orally from a vantage point of 60+ years, it is backed up with articles, poice reports,etc. Very credible and tragic story.

Remarkable and True

This is a truely moving novel and all the more so because it is true. Set in the 1930's it is a story of three aboriginal girls who were forcably taken from there families in the desert of western australia and put in a native settlement to be trained in the ways of 'white' society.
The way aboriginals were treated was apauling and it is one of australias darkest secrets refered to now as the 'stolen generation'.
Molly who is fourteen leads her two sisters in an escape and journeys something like 2400km across the australian desert, amazing by anyones standards but these are children.
they are pursued by trackers and search planes, and walk until they reach the rabbit proof fence. A fence that crosses australia from north to south and will lead these three determined children home.

Recently Re-issued Sufi Material

I'm glad Octagon Press has re-issued THE WORLD OF THE SUFI, because my copy is the original 1979 hardback, and it is disintigrating from overuse.

I heard one of the authors, the late Peter Brent, when he lectured once at Arizona State University. And I have become personally acquainted here in Colorado with another contributer, Leonard Lewin, whose essay is actually a review of another fasinating book, SUFI STUDIES: EAST AND WEST. Brent and others have their own books on the market, and I've read two of his, plus some by other essayists in THE WORLD OF THE SUFI: David Penlebury, Doris Lessing, and Arthur Deikman, all intensely interesting.

That's the way many Sufi books work. One is led into labirynths of people, ideas and practices. Reading THE WORLD OF THE SUFI is intrinsically a spiritual exercise and more. One becomes more informed about this world and the "other" and with a piqued curiosity.

A World Worth Taking A Look At

This is a fascinating book, with contributions by many outstanding thinkers including Peter Brent and Doris Lessing. Starting with an instructive introduction by Idries Shah, it's a real smorgasbord of unusual and entertaining information, with everything from humorous Mulla Nasrudin tales, to an essay on the Sufi influence on the formation of Sikhism. Sections deal with the Classical Tradition of the Sufi, Humour and the Sufi, Sufism in Eastern Religion, Therapy and the Sufi, The Practice of the Sufi, and Current Study Materials. A must read for anyone interested in the Sufis.

Magical Disguise

Many pieces in this book first appeared in pamphlet form from Octagon Press and one I find intriguing is the piece by Chatelherault on the use of the book, The Five Gems. In appearance it is a book of spells and mantrams but Chatelherault asserts it is used as a textbook by those who are not in any way occultists. He refers to the shock value in experiencing its teaching use. He gives four reasons for The Five Gems, being in a “magical disguise” (the author of the Five Gems is Gwath Shattar): - People protect and distribute magical texts; to test and to baffle the inept; as a “magician” the teacher courts no high repute; and a demonstration – when understood - that truth can be put in any form. I wonder about similar aspects in Shah's writings. At all events, a great book.

About the Author
Dr. Brad Schultz is an Assistant Professor of Journalism at the University of Mississippi, where he teaches Broadcast News and Sports Broadcasting. Before entering academia, he spent 15 years in local television news at different stations around the country. His experience includes anchoring, reporting, producing, writing, editing, photography and management. Schultz has won awards from the Oklahoma Associated Press and the Cleveland Press Club for reporting and producing. His first book, Sports Broadcasting, came out in 2001.

Golden and Runny - A Masterful Creation

I neither had the patience to wait for this book to be available on Kindle nor for the print edition to be available here in the US. So I did what every good book reader does - Ordered the print edition in India as soon as it was released (where it was originally published by Harper Collins) & had it shipped to me. Read it in one sitting.
Confession: I haven't read the kindle edition yet (just ordered) but I guess I don't necessarily have to read the kindle edition to review the book.

First things First: You don't need to know the author to enjoy the book. This is a great read for anyone who is simply looking for a book packed with lighthearted notes on how to stay positive no matter what. A pocket guide, if you will, for those who want to read something quick, whenever they feel down or whenever things look a little bleak.

I bet you will smile your way through this book. And no, it is not because this is a "humorous" book - but because this is a book that is bound to remind you of situations in your own lives. There were at least half a dozen situations that I could completely relate to as narrated by Anu. I smiled my way through because I simply loved how the author so gleamingly narrates her way of handling some difficult situations and how very cogently she connects these situations with some generic notes that can make a desk calendar on their own if compiled together.

Final Note: My Father In Law (75), who hadn't read a single book in the past two decades, decided to take a sneak peek at this book and ended up reading this book in its entirety. Now, he cannot stop raving about this book enough, for he loved Anu's simple style of presenting her unfazed attitude while handling some real life issues and the simple portrayal of all things positive.

Highly recommend this book.

Easy, breezy one-shot-read kind of book. The language is beautiful, simple, precise, articulate and so free flowing that I could imagine Anu talking about the same with laughs and giggles that I observed in her shows and interviews. The wit and humor shined through and the incidents and experiences she had chosen to mention in the book are very much one could relate to. I was impressed with the authenticity, sensitivity and objectivity with which author has presented the vulnerabilities and they way they are put in perspective towards the end of each topic.

Using a selection of key experiments performed over the past 30 years or so, we present a discussion of the strikingly counter-intuitive phenomena of the quantum world that defy explanation in terms of everyday "common sense" reasoning, and we provide the corresponding quantum mechanical explanations with a very elementary use of associated formalism. Most, but certainly not all, of the experiments we describe are optical experiments involving a very small number of photons (particles of light). We begin with experiments on the wave-particle duality of electrons, proceed to experiments on the particle nature of light and single photon interference, delayed choice experiments and interaction-free detection, then go on to experiments involving the interference of two photons, quantum entanglement and Bell's Theorem, quantum teleportation, large-scale quantum effects and the divide between the classical and quantum worlds, addressing the question as to whether or not there is such a divide.

Slightly technical but revealing

One of the best explanations of how recent experiments validate quantum physics. If you are patient absorbing the equations and understanding the gist of the experiments, you get a clear understanding of complimentarity, uncertainty, the wave equation and most importantly the Copenhagen interpretation and why other interpretations have not been favored.
Highly recommended for those who have taken college physics.

Best explanation of the still inexplicable - Clear, concise, understandable!

This is the best work I've found, explaining the relationship of the "quantum world" with all its' weirdness to the "classical world" with our sense of logical and causation. There are equations - they are mathematical statements, clearly described. An informed layman, with high school math and physics, could make sense of the equations and the conclusion drawn - there is no divide. Well worth the effort!

Hard book (for me at least) but very insightful

This ranks as one of the most difficult of the dozen or so QM popularizations I've read. However, it's also one of the best because it provides genuine insight into QM concepts like superposition+entanglement. Unlike most popularizations, there's relatively little about the history and personalities involved- instead the focus is on explaining QM concepts through modern QM experiments.

"Difficult" is a relative word because there's none of the high-level math found in real textbooks. So for the laymen, this book may be the closest thing to obtaining real understanding without getting mired in solving the Schrodinger equation. Having said that, I'll definitely have to re-read this book (esp. the chapter on entanglement).
