I've purchased kindle edition of this book yesterday. The quality of pictures is moderate at the best, scanned from the other sources ( kindle edition ). Not really differ from the previous edition. Procedures are shown in very superficial manner. Perhaps first or second year residents in general surgery will benefit. In my opinion Cameron's Current Surgical Therapy is much better and updated.

not complete book

total bs that first chapters r free, then 2nd chapters r $0.99 then the last chapters r another $0.99. Was the author really that hard up for money that she couldn't wait until the entire book was completed before release? Lame.

The story itself was not that great. It was drawn out and the hero was not really nice. The heroine is almost trance like in her lust for the hero which is annoying since he is there to take away her nephews. It reads like it could be over 30 chapters long because nothing happens up to this point in the book. There is no in depth background to any of the characters and the sudden violence/attack is not explained (maybe it will be in the next chapters).

From what i read so far, i would not invest another dime into these books/chapters. There is a lot of questions that go unanswered that i highly doubt could be answer to my satisfaction in the next 3 chapters. I would not recommend this book/ 3 chapters of an incomplete book. Waste of time and space.

Okay so I bought this "book" thinking it would be a quick nice read, and for $0.99 i didn't bother to get a sample. I completely regret it. I was expecting to get a book and instead got an excerpt of a book. I should have paid attention to the chapters 10-12 part in the title. I thought it was a continuation of series. no, its a section of one book and jumps right to the middle of the story. Seriously? WTF. Maybe it would have been alright if it was one book with a beginning, middle and end, but right now I am angry I even bought this book. Why would the author split up the book? It makes no sense.

Within hours of the performance, Countess Eugénie, the secret author of the poem, is murdered. Both Schubert and Vogl, an old paramour of Eugénie, become suspects. 

  Authorities assigned to the case care more about providing a quick, politically expedient solution to the crime than catching the right criminal, and begin to delve into Schubert’s and Vogl’s private lives. When one of the detectives assigned to follow Schubert also ends up dead, Vogl sees a noose tightening around his composer friend. Convinced that the commissioned song must be the key, Vogl acts desperately but decisively to stop the murderer as well as to preserve the source of much immortal music.

About the Author

After wrapping up a forty-year teaching career teaching English mostly at the high school level and producing plays for thirty-four years at The Roxbury Latin School in Boston, David W. Frank has continued his literary and dramatic pursuits in non-academic settings. His adaptations of Ibsen’s The Pillars of Society and Henry Fielding’s The Mock Doctor were published online, and his adaptations of Gozzi’s The Love of Three Oranges and Aristophanes’ The Clouds were performed, as well as the revue, Musical! for which he wrote the book. His original play, 4’33” in Rehearsal was also performed onstage. David’s life-long hobby, classical piano, introduced him to Schubert at an early age, and his education includes a year at the Eastman School in Rochester, New York. Vienna in Violet is his third published novel, the first with a historical setting and the second to feature a musical maguffin.

a love story, and a novel of political intrigue

Franz Schubert died at the age of 31, when many artists are just getting started, but he left an impressive oeuvre; his compositions number well over 600. "Vienna in Violet" (the title alone made me want to open the book) uses Schubert's Vienna as backdrop and Schubert himself as protagonist. After Schubert reluctantly puts an anonymous poem to music, the author is murdered and Schubert becomes a prime suspect. This is a deftly constructed, solidly written piece of historical fiction that is also a murder mystery, a love story, and a novel of political intrigue. The characters are believable and complex and Frank does an admirable job of recreating early 19th-century Vienna. If you enjoy history, music, and a good murder mystery, this is for you.

A mystery for music lovers

Anyone who loves a good mystery with the allure of Old Vienna, plus the charm of Classical music will enjoy this book. The central character is none other than Franz Schubert (the Little Mushroom to his friends). He is a shy, gentle, socially awkward young man. Why then is he a suspect in the murder of a flamboyant Austrian countess? However, the countess, a woman with a tawdry past and many lovers, could have been killed by any number of people: the Vienna Woods are full of suspects. Frank’s book is particularly good for its insights into the musical world of the 1830’s, with appearances by Von Weber, Salieri, and other luminaries.

Loved It

This is a wonderful musical murder mystery, starring Franz Schubert and Micheal Vogl. Told in tongue in cheek style by David Frank, who is a favorite author of mine. A song is the focal point in the story, and plays an important part in solving the murders. Loved it.

Mr. Garcia shares his experiences and knowledge in an easy-to-read fashion. This book is full of factual and accurate information regarding the Florida criminal justice system. I highly recommend it for anyone who is having to deal with the state's draconian laws or has a friend, family member or loved one who is subject to them. It will enlighten you to many steps in the judicial process, ease understanding and help you communicate with legal professionals and staff when discussing case information. Also good for concerned citizens and others looking to broaden their knowledge regarding the practical application of Florida criminal law.

Florida's criminal justice laws are producing a generation of citizens who are unable to move forward after making petty, one-time offenses, leaving them unemployed, underemployed, homeless or a burden to the state's taxpayers. Mr. Garcia seems to be a seasoned professional and successful author who has the knowledge and experience to affect change in the future. After reading his book, I viewed his arguments before the Governor during clemency hearings available ob the State of Florida Sunshine website, I was very impressed.

Incredible information thats needed by all

Reggie has once again hit it out of the ball park with his wealth of knowledge. He provides us with all the tools to go forth in his incredible second book to know how what needs to be done, and just how the legal system works first hand to make sure attorneys or families can help inmates regain their freedom. A must for every Fla attorney ! @eddgimenez
